I get asked to schedule book tours for authors more than almost any other service. For most freelance literary publicists, this isn’t a one-off task they willingly take on, so it seems high time to teach authors the ways that they can effectively put together an author tour for themselves.

Some questions this workshop will answer:

  • Just because you can afford to fund a book tour for yourself doesn’t mean your publisher has to support it. We’ll discuss the reasons why your publisher may not support touring and whether there is anything you can do to change their mind.
  • If your publisher isn’t supportive of your tour, should you just not do one?
  • Can you do a book tour if you’re an indie author?
  • And how is it different from a book tour with a traditional publisher (whether that publisher is supporting the tour or not).
  • How do you choose what cities to put on your tour?

In this course you will learn:

  • How to plan out and manage both small and large tours.
  • How to pitch venues, including bookstores, libraries, and universities.
  • The optimal timelines for planning and promoting events.
  • How to market your event successfully to friends/colleagues and the local community.
  • How to partner with your publisher to market your talks, if they are supporting your tour.
  • How much money to budget per city for travel, accommodations, and promotion.
  • How to be 100% certain that books will be available for your events.

You will receive:

  • Tour execution timeline
  • Event pitch letter template
  • Tour schedule template
  • Tips to keep you organized throughout the tour process
  • Access to two live, one-hour group Q&A sessions with Sarah
